Tapedeck is a music store and streaming service built for fans who want to genuinely support the artists they love. Artists and labels set their own prices for streams and downloads, and they keep 80 percent of what fans spend. We use the remaining 20 percent to keep the lights on.
No. We are one of the only music streaming services that doesn’t ask you to subscribe. You only pay for actually listening to or purchasing music.
Every time you stream more than 30 seconds of a song on Tapedeck, the artist earns at least one cent (that is our floor, but artists set their own rates, so some may charge more). That’s about three times more than what major platforms pay. There are no thresholds, complicated splits, or hidden conditions. One stream equals at least one cent. Always.
PLAYS are what enables us to pay artists their fair share for music streaming and music downloads. It’s a virtual currency which is used for steaming and purchasing music on Tapedeck. You’ll get 10 free PLAYS when you register, that’s on us.
It depends on what your preference is. You can buy PLAYS, but you can also obtain them for free by using our partner offers or rewarded ads. That enables you to stream and purchase high-quality music completely for free, without ripping off the artists.
Currently music on Tapedeck is streamed in AAC at 256kbps. We are planning to add more options for higher quality streaming in the near future.
Purchased music will end up in My Collection and you’ll be able to stream it unlimited in the app. We will also send you a link to download the actual music files if you wish to do so. You’ll keep these music files forever.
Our minimum requirement from artists is 44.1kHz/16-bit in lossless formats (WAV or FLAC). When downloading, you’ll have the option to choose from all available types, including 320kbps MP3 if you prefer a smaller file size.
You will be able to stream music from Tapedeck to any AirPlay enabled device on your network.
