Biography
A Makhanda (Grahamstown) native who left the Eastern Cape for the 'City of Gold' (JHB) as a kid, L Tip had a coming of age characterised by music and hustling. Whether it be slanging 'stok sweets' and airtime to students in Pretoria or merchandising bootleg products across the Joburg metropolis to supplement rent money; or lighting up a fire with bars on Rap Activity Jam (Metro Fm) or being crowned King Of The Cyphers on The Hip Hop Floor (YFM) or shutting down the 2016 SAHHA Cypher on MTV Base... Tip did it with trouble-free flair. Passionately established from the legacy of raw hip hop, L Tip has evolved into a man who encompasses the culture's dynamism and innovation. While effortlessly re-inventing himself in the eyes of the audience, his message of authenticity and tenacity remains consistent in everything he creates - even when appearing on the movie soundtrack of Quizzical production, The Lucky Specials or knocking out mainstream chart-topping songs such as "Perfect Timing (feat. Lex LaFoy)". Tip's exploits not only earned him appearances on national radio charts, but also TV performances and cameos on Hip Hop documentaries such as The Hip Hop Effect on SABC 1.
