In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Music was in my blood from church, but Saturdays with my mom, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, and Phyllis Hyman showed me how a song could feel. That’s when I knew music could hit the soul, not just the ears.
