Biography
Byron Asher is a clarinetist and saxophonist, composer and improviser based in New Orleans. As a performer, Byron has played all over the US and Europe with a wide variety of groups, from free improvisation to New Orleans traditional jazz. As a composer, Byron’s work has been supported by top national institutions, including MacDowell, South Arts, the Jazz And Heritage Foundation (New Orleans) and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts (NYC). Raised in Maryland, but based in Louisiana since 2011, Byron leads or co-leads several projects, including Basher, a freak-out instrumental party band and his award-winning Byron Asher's Skrontch Music large ensemble, and is an equal member of collaborative projects Little Bigby, Flaxan, and Nutria.
