Biography
Anthony Sharaz, known to many as DJ Sharaz, is a Florida-based DJ and producer whose music bridges breakbeat, electro, house, synthwave and melodic electronic music. Originally from East Chicago, Sharaz moved to Florida in the 1980s and became part of the state’s underground dance music scene. While his roots are in breakbeat, electro and the b-boy energy of early dance music, Sharaz’s current sound has evolved into something more vocal-driven, melodic and club-focused. Built around strong hooks, female vocals, polished production and driving break rhythms, his newer music blends classic breakbeat energy with the more accessible, song-centered feel of modern dance music. His influences come from soul, funk, disco and early electronic music, including the deeper grooves of electro, freestyle, progressive house and breakbeat culture. Over the years, Sharaz has performed alongside artists including Frankie Bones, Richard “Humpty” Vission, DJ Rap, Darude, The Warp Brothers, The Bassbin Twins, Paul Oakenfold, The Crystal Method and DJ Icey. His remix work has appeared through labels including Tommy Boy Records, UMG, POD Music, Kaleidoscope, DBI Records and StreetBeat Records. Today, Sharaz continues to write and produce from The Attic, his personal studio filled with synthesizers, records and decades of dance music history. His music remains rooted in groove and rhythm, but with a sharper focus on vocals, melody, atmosphere and dance floor energy.
