About Artist

BSP
BSP
BSP is an artist and performer with synesthesia; she can see music. Sound appears to her as colour, texture, and movement, shaping the way she composes, paints, and performs. Her live performances merge voice, electronic music, and painting into a single, immersive act. Using custom-built canvases fitted with piezo sensors, each artwork becomes a playable instrument, activated through touch, gesture, and paint. Singing, painting, and playing happen simultaneously, transforming the stage into a living canvas. Growing up surrounded by mental health challenges, BSP found in synaesthesia a way to turn inner chaos into form and meaning. What began as a personal refuge evolved into a practice that questions perception itself. Her work invites audiences to step beyond habitual ways of listening and seeing, encouraging a more embodied, emotional, and empathetic experience of art. Presented in spaces ranging from clubs and music venues to galleries and institutions, BSP’s performances function as social experiments in perception. Inspired by pioneers such as John Cage and Meredith Monk, she explores the role of the audience not as passive observers, but as active participants in a shared sensory moment. From the Venice Biennale and Tate Modern to her Sky Arts documentary The Blending of Senses, BSP continues to blur the boundaries between sound, vision, and interaction, creating work that is not only performed but felt.
