About World
World Music is a bit of an ethnocentric term, as it was originally created by English-speaking marketers to sell non-English music. But it's become a standard way to categorize any music made outside of Western traditions. This certainly includes traditional Folk or Classical music from Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and South America, but it can also include contemporary songs from those same regions. So, what's considered "World Music" in Topeka could very well be thought of as Pop in Mumbai.
