J Salez, known as Juan Ricardo Chavez in his personal life, is a Mexican American artist with a unique twist. Hailing from Corona, California, and now based in Los Angeles, he is making waves in the Dominican genre of Bachata. His standout factor? His Chicano heritage, a rare sight in this genre, but his individuality goes beyond that. J Salez's love for Bachata is not just a casual interest but a burning passion ignited when he started dancing extensively in his 20s. This passion led him to perform and teach Bachata dancing in various locations, both nationally and internationally. When he decided to pursue a music career, he felt a strong calling, much like his family members, including his mother and father, who both sang Mariachi professionally. He chose Bachata because it fulfilled all of his artistic aspirations. J Salez has expressed a desire to embody the influences of artists such as Chris Brown, Selena, Justin Timberlake, Usher, and Michael Jackson. "I have always been captivated by people who sang and danced. I used to run around my home alone, pretending I was Michael," J Salez recalls. Every year, J Salez raises the bar for what a non-traditional Bachata artist can achieve, demonstrating that his vision can prevail despite any obstacles.
